Linked Server object

I found the article abount linking exchange server with Sql 2005
EXEC sp_addlinkedserver 'exchange',
'Exchange OLE DB provider',
'exoledb.DataSource.1',
'file:\\.\backofficestorage\localhost\public folders'
I didn't see the 'Exchange OLE DB provider',
'exoledb.DataSource.1',
Do you have any idea how I can link the exchange server?
Can I search Exchange inbox in sql 2005?
Is Exchange on the same box as SQL Server? The Exchange
install would have installed the provider. It's a server
side only provider so they need to be on the same box.

Is it means that the SQL Server and Exchange Server must on the same computer?
If they are on the same machine, can I serach Exchange inbox through the
stroe procedure in SQL?
Thanks.

The Exchange Web Store should be located in the same
computer as SQL Server. Web Stores located in other
computers cannot be accessed by using the OLE DB Provider
for Exchange.
Then you can follow the example in books online.

Linked Server = Poor Performance

Using a query through a linked server is giving tremendously reduced performance.

Is part of the problem linking from a SQL 2000 to a SQL 7.0 database?

Are there any other tips out there?

Thanks.

The major difference between 7.0 and 2000 is DRI (declarative referential integrity) so run you code through SQL Server 2000 profiler and if you have indexes run DBCC ShowContig to see if your AIM (index allocation mapping) pages are fragmented. Hope this helps.

Linked Server

I'm curious if any database guru has this experience.

I setup the ODBC connection with the 3rd party software CONNX. Linking the database from MS Access, I get the query result within 5 seconds. But when I use the linked server in SQL 2005 Express, nothing shows up after 5 minutes(I ended up cancelling the query). How would anyone resolve this issue? Thank you.

If I understand the issue correctly, you're using Linked Server in SQL Express to connect to a Microsoft Access database, right? Not sure what's happening, but try to new a test.udl file on your desktop, then double click to open it->choose the same provider as used in the Link Server->configure it to connect to the Access database file and test the connection. If the test succeeds, then use execute some as following to test the linked server:

select top 0 * fromyourAccessServerName...Table1
