Linked Server Oracle 10g problem

I have followed the examples from MS. to create the link between my MSSQL200
5
and Oracle 10g
I have all of the Oracle client installed on the server.
I have a net service defined.
Here is what I ran to create link:
EXEC sp_addlinkedserver 'OraLinkServer2', 'Oracle', 'MSDAORA', 'HPRD89'
EXEC sp_addlinkedsrvlogin 'OraLinkServer2', 'False' ,Null, 'spwr07', 'spwr07
'
Here is the query:
select count(*) from OraLinkServer2..sysadm.SUN_PUBT
Here is the error:
OLE DB provider "MSDAORA" for linked server "OraLinkServer2" returned
message "ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve the connect identifier specified
".
Msg 7303, Level 16, State 1, Line 1
Cannot initialize the data source object of OLE DB provider "MSDAORA" for
linked server "OraLinkServer2".
What am I doing wrong all the oracle tools connect just fine. I need SQL2005
to connect?
Thanks
GregHob,
I've had the same problem. I used the openquery syntax to work around
the problem. This also has the advantage of pushing the work to the
Oracle Server.
So.. try:
select * from
openquery(OraLinkServer2,
' select count(*) from SUN_PUBT
'
)
No -- you don't need the formating and returns -- I just use them to
make it easy for me to read the Oracle Commands separate from the
MS-SQL commands.
If you find a better solution, please post it.

It has the best set of instructions for getting the Instant Client to
work.
Good luck,

Thanks for the response, but I finally found the problem yesterday. The real
problem was not with SQL server, but rather it was a problem with the Oracle
config.
Though i had the TNSNames.ora file configured correctly the SQLNET.ora file
was where the problem lay. It was configured for ezconnect instead of
tnsnames. After this was ironed out the linking of the oracle db into sql wa
s
easy. One weird not though I found after getting the config right. When
querying the linked db. It is case sensitive with regards to column and tabl
e
names, even though on the Oracle side it is not case sensitive. I'm guessing
it has something to do with the translation being provided by the providers.
Thanks

Linked Server Fails after MDAC 2.8 upgrade

We installed the MDAC 2.8 upgrade and our existing
Microsoft OLE DB Provider for Oracle stopped working.
Other providers were fine, i.e. SQL Server (linking to
another mssql server).
Has anyone had this issue? Or does anyone have any
ideas as to what changed in 2.8 that would affect this
linked server?
Thanks in advance,
MarkI think that may be something related with distributed transactions.
I have some applications that stopped to work when I upgrade to MDAC 2.8.
Trying to solve this I discover that just returning the sql server odbc
driver files to version 2.7 the applications could work correctly... anyway
I think that is a bug in MDAC 2.8

Linked server error in SSMS

Hi all
I have installed Sql Server 2005 + Sp2 developer edition. Once trying to add
a linked server in SSMS Server Objects => Linked Servers => New Linked
Server I'm getting the error immediately saying " Cannot show requested
dialog. Cannot find table 0. (System.Data)". Additionally Providers tree
under Linked servers is also empty. However I could add a linked server
successfully using t-sql sp_addlinkedserver. I got the feeling that some
files are corrupt on my PC, but I don't know which. I tried to uninstall and
put the server back again and it did not help either. I installed Sql Server
from the same disk onto the other machine and it works fine. Has anybody got
an idea how to resolve my problem?
Many thanks

Linked Server Error

Hello,
I have installed IBM AS/400 Client Access on my machine and then added a new
ODBC Data Source.
I have been working with this ODBC connection on several DTS packages and
everything has worked just fine.
Right now, I need to access some information on my AS/400 server from
several stored procedures on my SQL Server. I already configured a Linked
Server to the AS/400 server using the Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC
Driver.
When I click the Tables folder under the new linked server, I can browse
through all the tables on the 400 Database. But when I execute any query
(using OPENQUERY or 4-part names in a normal query) I get the following erro
r:
****************************************
***+++
Server: Msg 7399, Level 16, State 1, Line 1
OLE DB provider 'MSDASQL' reported an error.
[OLE/DB provider returned message: [IBM][Client Access Express ODBC Driver
(32 bits)] Driver not capable.]
OLE DB error trace [OLE/DB Provider 'MSDASQL' IRowset::GetNextRows returned
0x80004005: ].
****************************************
**
Why is this happening? What is the error? Is there anything I am doing
wrong? I have been "fighting" with this problem for several hours.
Thanks a lot, in advance, for all the help you can give me.Gabriel --

message, I would look at the client software installed on the SQL end. The
second thing to look at is the syntax used to attempt to get data. As long a

the SQL is fully ANSI standard, you should be fine on both ends; if not, the
likelihood of error increases.

Linked server AS400/DB2 trouble again

Hi !
I'm trying to create Linked Server to AS400 DB2 on SQL Server 2000.
Using IBMDA400 (IBM AS400 OLEDB Provider installed from Client Access).

Got an error 7399: OLEDB Provider returned UNKNOWN error.

exec SP_AddLinkedServer
@.Server=AS_SERVER,
@.SrvProduct='IBM AS400 OLEDB Provider',
@.Catalog='QGPL',
@.Location='AS_SERVER',
@.Provider=IBMDA400,
@.Datasrc=AS_SERVER,
@.Provstr='Provider=IBMDA400.1;Password="";User ID=AS_USER;Data Source=AS_SERVER;Transport Product=Client Access;SSL=DEFAULT;Libraries=QGPL;Connect Timeout=90;Host Code Page=037'

Attempted different combinations of theese params...

After that created remote login on AS400.

Please help or correct my LinkedServerProperties...

Linked server - Access Denied

I have a problem that I am having a heck of a time figuring out.
I have a new install of SQL Server 2005 on a new install of Windows 2003.
I installed the Informix CSDK 2.90.xxx and set up connections to our test
informix database
I created a linked server to an Informix database using OLEDB and it works
if the service account is the Local System account or a domain admin.
If I change the account to a domain user, I get an access denied error when
running a query against the linked server. I added the domain user account
to the local administrator group and still get access denied.
Everything else that I tried seems to work, just a problem with the linked
server. I have made sure that the service account user has read & execute
at a minimum on the Informix OleDB dll. Even went so far as temporarily
giving everyone full control on the Informix client directory, to make sure
is was not a file permission problem.
any HELPwould be greatly appreciated!
The actual message I receive is:
Where ifxoledbc is the informix OleDB driver, and coristest is the link
server name
Msg 7399, Level 16, State 1, Line 1
The OLE DB provider "Ifxoledbc" for linked server "coristest" reported an
