In a prior environment, I was running two servers...both with SQL 7.0, one
with NT 4.0 and the other with 2000 Server. I replaced the NT 4.0 Server
with a 2003 Server and loaded SQL 2000 on it. I restored the SQL 7.0
databases from backups onto the new 2003 server with SQL 2000 (not including
the system databases).
Now, none of the linked servers on my SQL 7.0 server will link to the new
SQL 2000 database. I receive "Error #2: Accessed denied" when trying to
access views in a linked server.
From other similar postings, I have enabled DTC and COM+ on the new 2003
Server, but this does not work. Please help! Thank you!

Al Tilleryhow is the network setup? are the 2 servers on the same domain?|||Hi A,
I hope you are using the SP1 for Windows 2003 coz you have to enable
network inbound/outbound (MSDTC-Security Configurator) if you are using
Distributed transaction .
u can try debugging the situation by participating 2 linked servers of
the same OS and same SQL version..i mean initial try i mean that way u
can go deeper and deeper to find the root cause..thanks
regards,
dilip|||Thanks for your quick posts. The servers are on the same domain. I am
running SP1 on the 2003 server and have enabled inbound/outbound traffic (no
authentication required) in the DTC settings. Still no luck (even after
re-boot). I have several other servers running SQL 2000 on Windows 2000 and
the linked servers work. I'm fairly certain the root of the problem is 2003,
but just can't find any configuration that works.
Thanks!

maybe your sql logins are messed up since you didn't restore the system
databases.|||Well, I re-built the logins and they work for everything except linked
servers. I can't even create a new linked server. I am trying the DTCPing
tool now to see if it can offer any assistance.
